A pet is is for life, or is it? – Economic Downturn

Unfortunately with more and more people feeling the pinch due to the economic downturn, they’re left with no alternative but to give their beloved pets to Animal Rescue Centers.

As the owner of a beautiful black Labrador I’ve owned for 10 years, I couldn’t imagine anything worse than having to give him up for re-homing. He is my best buddy.

Unfortunately with more and more people feeling the pinch due to the economic downturn, they’re left with no alternative but to give their beloved pets to Animal Rescue Centers.

It is usually through no fault of their own. It could be through loss of a job, losing their homes due to going into bankruptcy and moving into rental accommodation where many private landlords won’t allow pets.

Vets are also feeling the credit crunch so have increased their prices putting extra pressure on pet owners.

A spokesperson for Battersea dogs home, one of the largest pet charities in the UK, said; “never before have we taken in so many dog’s”. They also speak about how many heart breaking calls they receive each day from distressed owners.

It is a catch 22 situation as Pet Rescue Centers are bursting at the seams. This is because people are not going to adopt any pets when they have to tighten their belts.

All in all it makes for a very sad tale as pets are another victim or the never ending recession
