The company, which has its headquarters on Ecclesall Road South, has been unveiled as a corporate sponsor this season.

The cricket club is one of the oldest established clubs in the area, based at Abbeydale Park in Sheffield. They run 13 junior sides from under 6’s through to under 17’s; it is also home to the Michael Vaughan Cricket Academy.

England cricketers, Michael Vaughan and Joe Root both came through Sheffield Collegiate’s ranks, and Root’s brother, Billy, currently plays for the club.

Andy Wood, associate director at Wilson Field, said;

“As existing sponsors of local grassroots football teams, we’re also proud to be involved with cricket and help raise its profile.

“Through our involvement with sports clubs, we are aiming to raise the profile of each activity and the importance of nurturing young, local, home-grown talent.”

Sheffield Collegiate’s men’s first team currently plays in the prestigious ECB Yorkshire South Premier League; the second team play in South Yorkshire League Championship, and the third team play in Division 3.

The Vice President’s XI plays in Division 1 in the Yorkshire and Derbyshire League, and the Yorkshire and Derbyshire Second team plays in Division 5. Also, the Sunday side competes in the Barnsley & District League.

Richard Ibbotson, club chairman, said;

“Children of all ages and ability are encouraged to come and join us to take an active part in the game of cricket.

“This support from local businesses is vital to the club. It will allow us to encourage even more youngsters into the game through our youth set up.”

“Howzat” for Wilson Field.
